Some photos from the first day we traveled to NYC. Our hotel was only 2 blocks from Central Park and we walked over there right away. We had heard that the Guggenheim museum was good (but small) so we thought that would be a good way to start the trip--a nice walk after all that sitting on the plane; and a small museum that was recommended but wouldn't take a lot of time.
On our way through Central Park, we stumbled on the filming of CSI. We're such tourists :) We had to snap some photos. Central Park is lovely, but I was shocked by how much the actual grass is roped off to prevent you from walking on it. Seems kind of counter-productive and very un-park-like. Hopefully it was just temporary as they reseeded or something.
Well, the Guggenheim was far from our favorite thing to see. It did become one of our favorite jokes though. Along with our ongoing "Things we wanted to do in NYC, but didn't". Item #1: Run through the CSI crime scene screaming "I did it! I did it!" Jason was just dying to do this--naked. I'm sure they would've appreciated it. #2: Enjoy art at the Guggenheim. We're a sarcastic group...
Finally, we capped off the day with dinner and a Yankees/Red Sox game. It was neat to take the metro to the game and then see all the bars lined up around the stadium. Unlike bars we see here, there were no tables--standing room only. Reminded me of a college frat party. It was actually pretty COLD at the game and we left around the 7th inning. We didn't want to end up in a crushing fight for the metro ride back (I guarantee we would've lost).
One thing we were the most surprised at on this trip--and we noticed it from the first day--is how polite and really pretty nice everyone is in NYC. No one bumped us without saying 'excuse me', there was no pushing to get on/off train and into places (unlike Europe), people quickly and politely gave us very good directions regarding trains/stops. It was great.
